14 Days in Nepal

$275 a night??
When we finally reached the Everst Hotel, I was ready to collapse. It was bad enough that we had to climb a very steep mountain, but after that, we had to walk along the edge of a cliff for about a mile. And it was a very long way down. My only saving grace was that the clouds below prevented me from seeing how far down it actually was! But anyway, here's another shot of Everest, taking from the Everest Hotel. The view from the hotel was excellent. We got to see the entire range sprawled out in front of us.
Next to Everest, this mountain has to be the coolest mountain in the Himalayas because of its pointy peak. This mountain, Amadablam, is supposedly loved by climbers because of its shape. It's considerably shorter than Everest, but since it was closer to us, it looked just as prominent. I love the contrast with the green tree at the bottom. We really lucked out though, because an intense fog rolled past a few minutes later, blocking everything. We were lucky to make it back to Namche, especially since it was getting dark.
I was beyond lucky to get this photo. It's hard to tell, but I took this inside the Everest Hotel. We went inside to have some hot chocolate. Their dining room has these massive picture windows where you can see the entire range. It's beautiful. When Andrea asked how much it was a night, they said something like $275 plus a mandatory 18% tip or something ridiculous like that. Either way, it was clearly over $300 US. And keep in mind that all along, we'd been paying about $2 US a night! By the way, they also said that no one was staying in the hotel that night. I wonder why...
I like this picture because of the shades of black and grey from the hills and mountains. This was taken in the morning on our way from Namche to Tengboche. This was a tough trek because we lost all our altitude when we had to climb down the mountain to cross a bridge. Then we had to regain all the altitude we lost, and then some. It was about a four and half hour trek. But I was feeling a lot better physically than I had the previous day. I guess I was finally adjusted to the altitude. I was afraid that I'd be lagging behind after the way I felt at the Everest Hotel, but I plugged along.
