14 Days in Nepal

Hiking from Nagarkot...
The whole time I was there, I saw mountains every day, but I don't think I ever got tired of looking at them. These aren't rolling hills or anything that I'm used to looking at. These are monstrous mountains, constantly capped in snow because it's so cold up there it never melts. And they rise way above the clouds. This picture is a perfect example of that. This was taken right outside our "hotel" room. And about one minute later, the mountains were completely covered by clouds and fog. I guess nothing gold can stay...
Here's a great picture of a farm, seemingly in the middle of nowhere. The steps in the land are created by the farmers. The only way to farm on the hills is to create these steps since it is impossible to successfully farm on hilly land. It seems like the entire country is cut up into these steps. It creates something very impressive to look at. I've never seen anything like that. I'm sure I could use that phrase again and again with regards to what we saw.
Here's a picture looking down into the Nagarkot valley, coming back from our hike out to the stupa. It's so important to stress how different everything in Nepal was. Everything- food, people, animals, and yes, even the landscape. I'm sure this sight is common to a Nepali, but it still blows me away. The mountains, the "stepped" landscape, the vastness of the valley below. It's all amazing. There was so much to soak in and I think that even after being back a few weeks, it's still soaking in.
I saw a lot of animals I never saw before, but I also saw some familiar ones. There were a lot of dogs. Stray dogs, just walking around. This picture shows a trio of new born puppies we found sticking their head out of a hole, waiting for their mom to bring home some food. There was a farmer nearby who told us that they were only a few weeks old. Supposedly there were more in the hole, but only three came out. This one definitely belongs on a calendar!
