14 Days in Nepal

Coming home...
After we got back from the mountains, we spent the rest of the week in Kathmandu. We did a lot of different things. We went shopping, we went to Andrea's gym, we went to see temples (as shown here- notice all the prayer flags and the Buddha eyes), we played some golf (and they had monkeys on the fairways and greens, absolutely amazing), and we witnessed the cremation of the bodies on the river. That was interesting. A bit morbid, but educational. They burned the bodies that were wrapped in leaves and then swept them into the river. They said it takes three hours for a body to completely burn.
That's also when we were attacked by monkeys. Since monkeys are sacred, you can't kill them, so they freely walk around the city. And Andrea had not only peanuts, but bananas! Gee, I wonder why we were attacked. So she tries stuffing them in my backpack while these monkeys start attacking us. Some were big too. I'm talking borderline gorilla. Luckily we got out of there alive. Before this trip I actually liked monkeys. Not anymore.
By the time my last day came, I was physically, emotionally, and mentally drained. But it was still tough to leave. I knew this trip was going to be memorable on many different levels, and it surely was. Obviously none of this would have been possible without Andrea, so I have her to thank for all she did and all she continues to do. This picture was taken from the window of the plane as I left Kathmandu on my way to India. The trip back wasn't too bad. I spent the night in London to get some sleep. On the plane ride from London to Newark, I was listening to one of their radio stations and the song "Rosalita" by Bruce Springsteen came on. That's when it finally hit me that I was coming home.
