April 7, 2001 NY/NJ Metrostars Home Opener Front and Center- Section 101
Here's everybody's favorite Metro, Billy Walsh. Billy is one of the many New Jersey bred soccer players. He starred at Rutgers and coached the Chatham High School boys team. This picture was taken when he was talking to Rob before the game. Since we were first row, I was able to get a good picture. It was cool because he asked Rob for his phone number and also asked why Rob's team didn't come to play in this past year's Walsh Cup, which is Billy's invite-only soccer tournament held at his house. It was cool.
	Here's a good snap of the Metrostars' keeper, Tim Howard. The cool thing about our seats being so close to the field was that these pictures make it look like I'm on the sidelines. I usually don't bother taking pictures of any of the players though because aside from Pele, I know maybe five soccer players. But I'm getting there. Every game I learn a little bit more. At least I know the bulk of the players on the Metrostars and the US National team. That's all that counts.
The Metrostars decided to try something new this year and add a mascot. Unfortunately it ended up being a stupid charicature of a dog. I don't know why they couldn't come up with something cooler. Or maybe even something that had any relevance to soccer or the Metrostars. The mascot was rather weak. But it was funny listening to the array of derrogatory chants that people in our section were shouting at the dog. I'd tell you what they were, but this is a family-oriented website, and I think they may be a bit inappropriate for some of my viewers.
	Here's a great picture of Ed, Kim and the dog. At halftime, I was with Ed and Kim and as soon as Ed saw the dog, he wanted me to take his picture with it. He ran over to the dog, dragging Kim into the picture and I took it for them. Ed was so excited to get a picture with the dog. But the funny thing is that Ed doesn't even remember this happening. I told him after the game about how great the picture of the three of them was and he had no idea what I was talking about.
