Streamers for the kids!
I think the funniest part of the entire day was what Mikey did prior to the start while we were at our seats. Ed had still yet to come in, but he gave Mikey his bag of streamers. Ed was so proud of his $35 worth of streamers- red, black, and white. That was all we heard about the days leading up to the games- how he went to Party City and bought a ton of streamers at the discounted price of fifty cents each. Well Mikey thought it would be funny to start throwing some of the streamers out to a group of little kids who were one section down from us. Here's a picture of Mikey, Monika, and a triumverant of kids.
First, Mikey would get the kids all excited and show them the streamer. Then he'd throw it and they'd all go crazy trying to get it. It was too funny. And then he'd wait a minute or two, pull out another one and say, "OH, I GOT ONE MORE!!" This kept repeating again and again. I kept saying that Ed would've been so mad if he was there to see all his streamers being thrown out to little kids instead of to the people in our section! He must've thrown out fifteen or so packages of streamers. But we still had quite a bit left. Ed sure did buy a lot.
What made it so classic was how excited and happy the kids got every time Mikey pulled out a streamer. Most of the time he threw the streamers right at their section, but a couple times he tossed them further up. When he did that, it would be followed by a herd of kids charging up the stadium to find where the package landed. And there was one kid who had three streamers and Mikey told everybody to go after that kid because he had too many. I couldn't stop laughing.
Here's Kim and Ed. I guess Ed was the only one who actually read the forecast for that day- bringing along his hats, his scarf, his jacket. When Ed finally arrived I think he thought the whole streamer thing was funny. Luckily he wasn't mad. And luckily there were so many streamers that you would never have known that half of them were thrown to kids. He just wanted everbody to have a streamer to throw when the Metrostars took the field. But maybe he was too drunk to even understand what Mikey did. Either way, it was a funny situation. Mikey and I liked the analogy of each bag of streamer being a dollar bill. So every time you throw one, it's like throwing away Ed's money.
