Too cold to play the drums...
Of all the pictures, this one shows best how cold I was. My face is all red from the cold wind beating it. I look like I'm in pain, struggling to even smile. The best was going to the bathroom because they had these massive heat blowers in there. I almost didn't want to leave it felt so nice in there. And I played my drum before the game and after the game, but during it, I had to concentrate on staying warm instead. At least it didn't rain like the forecast said it was supposed to do. If that happened, forget it. I would've waited in the van.
I'm not sure if Ed remembers seeing any of the soccer game since he was so far gone. This picture shows classic Eddie, having a grand ole time at the soccer game with his friends. It also shows a great look from Rob where he seems to be saying, "What an a**hole." Ed began drinking at the tailgate, continued through the game, and then afterwards, when we got to the Grotto (the Hopatcong pizzeria owned by Todd, a friend of Ron and Ed), he kept going even more. It was quite a display of his Irish heritage.
Here's a picture of me and Rob. Again, you can see the pain of cold on my face. After we got back to Hopatcong, I had Rob drive the van around to see if he could diagnose what was wrong with it. It was having so much trouble making it up the hills of Hopatcong. We were afraid that the maiden voyage of the NJB BUS would also be its last. I hope not, because we need at least one trip with the NJB BUS personalized license plates on. I sent in the application for the new plates a month ago, so if the van dies before the come, I guess we'll at least have two cool wall decorations.
Here's a picture of Dimitri, who came out with us. Ed knows him from somewhere. I forget the story. Anyway, back in 1998, when Hopatcong had it's smokin' baseball year, he used to email me scores of the games. I used to get updates on nj.com and I noticed that he was always posting about Hopatcong. So I sent an email and he became my Hopatcong contact, giving me the scoops. It's funny because I went to one game that year- they were like 22-0, playing Roxbury, and lost. Figures, the one game I go to they drop. Hope I wasn't bad luck.
